RingCentral alternatives: where to go and how to exit the contract without losing your numbers
Six destinations in detail, one per reason for leaving, and a six-step exit plan.
The short answer: Dialpad if you want a full business phone system for less, Aircall if your team lives in a CRM and has at least three people, CloudTalk if you never want another long commitment, KrispCall for the lowest entry price, CallHippo if you want to start free, Allo for a small, mobile-first team. One thing to know before you choose: at RingCentral, porting your numbers out does not end your contract. You have to send written notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before your term ends, or the contract renews for the same length again. We compared all six destinations and checked their pricing on each vendor's site in 2026.
Some links are affiliate links. The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why people want out, and why it's hard
The product itself holds up: on B2B software review sites, RingEX sits around 4.2 out of 5. On consumer review platforms the score drops below 2 out of 5, and the complaints are rarely about call quality. They're about the contract, the bill and the exit. Here are the six reasons that keep coming up, each one checked against RingCentral's own terms or its customers' reports.
A contract that renews for the same length
Section 2(E) of RingCentral's terms of service says that at the end of your term, the contract automatically renews for successive periods of the same length as the initial term. Sign for two years, and it renews for two more. Admins on community forums describe finding out after the fact, with no reminder in their inbox. The advice that keeps coming back: strike the auto-renewal clause when you sign, or at least put the date in a shared calendar.
Leaving early means paying the rest of the term
Under section 6(B)(b), early termination makes all sums remaining for the rest of the current term due. One seven-year customer wrote on RingCentral's own community that they ported their numbers out with eight months left, then got hit with a two-year renewal: over £1,000 a month for 48 lines nobody used.
A 30-day notice window that's easy to miss
Your non-renewal notice has to land at least 30 days before the term ends. The catch: a price increase can also be announced 30 days before renewal, so you may learn about it the day your window to leave closes. In the US, the top tier now lists at $45 month to month. Send notice in writing, keep the receipt, and do it 60 days out rather than 30.
Port-outs that get rejected
RingCentral's official porting page covers numbers coming in, not going out. Port-outs go through a number transfer team by email, with no published self-service process. On its community, customers describe port-out requests rejected several times with no clear reason, some threatening FCC or state utility complaints, and the thread was still active in 2026. Every rejection pushes back your cutover date.
Billing complaints and slow support
Billing is a recurring theme in public complaints: renewals nobody saw coming, and charges that kept running after a cancellation request. Reviewers also describe waiting on hold for 40 minutes or more. On top of the seat price, US invoices add taxes and fees such as E911 and the Universal Service Fund.
Data that expires fast
Call recordings stay available for 90 days at most, capped at 100,000 per account. The call log keeps 12 months online. The contract describes no export right and says your data gets deleted on termination. Bulk download of recordings is still an open customer request: you download one by one, in batches, or through the API.

RingCentral alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why move there, who it's for, its limit, how to migrate from RingCentral, and what it costs. Prices are what each vendor lists in 2026, in the vendor's currency, before tax. They match our individual review pages.
The tools
Dialpad: the full phone system for less
Best valueWhy move to Dialpad. If you used RingCentral as a classic business phone system (extensions, auto attendant, transfers), Dialpad Connect does the same job for less. Standard costs $15 per user per month, Pro $25, and Enterprise is quoted. Next to RingEX Core at $20 billed annually or $30 month to month, the gap shows up fast: at 20 users, that's at least $100 a month back in your budget.
Who it's for. Companies with 10 to 200 people that want a real phone system without contact-center pricing. If sales or support need more, Dialpad sells dedicated products: Sell from $39 to $79 and Support from $89 to $149 per user.
Who it's not for. A team that needs per-seat dialers and deep queue routing on the entry plan: that's what the Sell and Support tiers are priced for.
Its limit. The pricing page shows one figure per plan. Ask for the monthly versus annual price and the commitment length in writing before you sign, so you don't recreate the RingCentral problem.
How to migrate. Use the 14-day Connect trial to rebuild your extensions and auto attendant, then submit the port from Dialpad with a recent RingCentral bill. Keep RingCentral live until every number has landed.
- Price
- Connect Standard $15, Pro $25 per user per month
- Trial
- 14 days
- Best for
- replacing a full phone system
- Limit
- contact-center features sold separately
Aircall: calling wired into your CRM
CRM teamsWhy move to Aircall. Aircall is built around integrations: Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk connect in one click, and every call lands on the contact record with its recording. If calls lived outside your CRM at RingCentral, this is the logical move. Essentials costs $30 and Professional $50 per user per month, billed annually.
Who it's for. Sales or support teams of three or more, already organized around a CRM. Every plan also includes 50 AI voice agent minutes a month.
Who it's not for. Solo operators and two-person teams: the hard three-license minimum puts the real entry price at $90 a month. And teams running from annual contracts: customer complaints about Aircall's renewals sound a lot like RingCentral's.
Its limit. The real bill climbs 50 to 75% with add-ons: $9 per user for AI, $15 for Analytics+. Essentials keeps recordings for one year, and full API access is reserved for the Custom plan, from 25 licenses.
How to migrate. The trial lasts only 7 days, so build your call flows and user list before you start it. US numbers can be ported self-service; elsewhere, Aircall's team handles it. Read the term and renewal date on your order form before signing. Our full Aircall review covers the billing complaints.
- Price
- Essentials $30, Professional $50 per user per month (annual)
- Minimum
- 3 licenses, so $90 a month
- Trial
- 7 days
- Limit
- AI and analytics are add-ons
CloudTalk: leave month to month
No long contractWhy move to CloudTalk. It's the opposite of the RingCentral trap. CloudTalk offers month-to-month billing you can cancel anytime, at a higher seat price, or annual billing about 30% cheaper with a 12-month commitment. You choose with your eyes open. Plans run from Lite at €19 to Starter at €25, Essential at €29 and Expert at €49 per user per month, billed annually. Local numbers are available in 160+ countries, and porting is supported.
Who it's for. Teams of 3 to 50 seats with a support desk or sales team working from queues, especially with callers in Europe. Recording storage is unlimited from Essential up, the opposite of RingCentral's 90 days.
Who it's not for. A high-volume outbound floor that wants everything at the entry price. The power dialer needs the Expert plan (3-seat minimum) or a €15 per user add-on.
Its limit. Add-ons stack up: power dialer, parallel dialer at €39, AI conversation intelligence at €9. A fully equipped outbound seat on Essential tops €80 a month. Pricing is in euros, and the certified Salesforce integration is Expert-only.
How to migrate. Start the 14-day trial (no card needed), rebuild your IVR and queues, then submit the port from CloudTalk with your latest RingCentral invoice. Stay monthly for the first few months and switch to annual once you're sure.
- Price
- Lite €19, Essential €29 per user per month (annual)
- Commitment
- monthly, cancel anytime, or 12 months
- Trial
- 14 days, no card
- Limit
- outbound features are add-ons
KrispCall: the lowest entry price
Tight budgetWhy move to KrispCall. Essential costs $12 per user per month billed annually, $15 month to month. That's the lowest entry point among the serious tools on this page, and well under RingEX Core. Calls, texts, voicemails and recordings land in one shared inbox. Standard costs $32 billed annually, $40 monthly.
Who it's for. Small teams that mostly call the US and Canada, or need numbers in several countries: KrispCall covers 100+.
Who it's not for. Teams that need a predictable bill to the dollar. Calls are paid separately from prepaid credit.
Its limit. Each extra number costs $5 to $10 a month, and call credit has to be topped up. With several countries and heavy minutes, the bill gets hard to forecast.
How to migrate. Start monthly, set up your numbers and business hours, then port your main numbers once a few live calls go through cleanly. Our KrispCall review explains the credit system.
- Price
- Essential $12 per user per month (annual), $15 monthly
- Calls
- prepaid credit
- Best for
- North America, small budget
- Limit
- variable bill
CallHippo: start for free
Free planWhy move to CallHippo. It's the only tool on this page with a permanent free plan, Basic. Paid plans stay low: Starter at $18, Professional at $30, Ultimate at $42 per user per month, and Enterprise is quoted. Professional unlocks unlimited US and Canada minutes plus call recording.
Who it's for. Teams that want a first line live without budget sign-off, then grow tier by tier.
Who it's not for. Anyone who needs the option of a refund: the no-refund policy shows up again and again in complaints.
Its limit. The account owner counts as a paid seat even if they never make a call. AI Copilot (transcription and sentiment) is a $10 per user add-on.
How to migrate. Set up your call flow on Basic, check call quality on your own network, then upgrade to port your numbers. Pay monthly until you're confident.
- Free
- Basic plan
- Paid
- Starter $18 per user per month
- Best for
- starting with no budget
- Limit
- no refunds
Allo: a mobile-first phone for small teams
Small teamsWhy move to Allo. Allo keeps pricing short: Business costs $32 per seat per month billed annually, $45 month to month, for teams of 2 to 250. No tiers that shift with headcount, no long list of add-ons to decode. Porting landlines in is free. For a small company that found RingCentral too heavy, it's a relief.
Who it's for. Teams of 2 to 20 who work mostly from their phones and want calls and notes in one place.
Who it's not for. A support desk with complex queues, or a high-volume outbound team: the parallel dialer only comes with Ultra, at $100 per seat.
Its limit. AI costs extra: the AI receptionist is $32 per agent per month, the power dialer $50 a month for the whole team. The $10 Solo plan is listed but not on sale yet, and the trial lasts only 3 days.
How to migrate. Prepare everything before starting the short trial (users, hours, greetings). Port your numbers, then keep RingCentral live until calls arrive at Allo. Our Allo review runs the real cost with add-ons.
- Price
- Business $32 per seat per month (annual), $45 monthly
- Minimum
- 2 seats
- Trial
- 3 days
- Limit
- AI and power dialer are add-ons
RingCentral and its 6 alternatives side by side
Our default picks: Dialpad if you want the same kind of phone system for less, Aircall if your team runs on a CRM. For a ballpark, take five users billed annually: RingEX Core comes to $100 a month, Dialpad Standard $75, KrispCall Essential $60 plus calls, Allo Business $160, CloudTalk Essential €145. Aircall needs three licenses minimum, so five Essentials seats cost $150. The table gives one row per tool, with the first paid price and how commitment works.
| First paid price | Commitment and minimum | |
|---|---|---|
| RingCentralWhere you're starting | Core $20 per user per month (annual), $30 monthly | Renews for the same term, 30-day notice |

Leave RingCentral in six steps
Order matters more than speed. Each step protects something: your money, your data, your numbers, your inbound calls.
The steps
Read your order form and send non-renewal notice
60 days outFind your order form: it sets the initial term and the end date. Send written notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before that date, 60 if you can. Keep proof of sending and the reply.
Why first? Because everything else can slip without real damage, except this. If your end date is far off, you have a choice: wait out the term, or leave early and pay what's left.
- Deadline
- 30 days before term end, minimum
- Risk if missed
- a full new term
Export what's about to disappear
Before anythingThree things to pull out. The call log: 12 months online, exportable from the admin portal (Analytics and Logs, then Call Log, detailed view) page by page, or through the API. Recordings: 90 days at most, downloadable one by one, in batches, or with a script on the API if you have thousands. App messages: a super admin can export them, up to 180 days per export.
Your IVR, business hours and queues don't export: screenshot every screen.
- Recordings
- 90 days max
- Call log
- 12 months
Build the new system during the trial
Week 1Start the new tool's trial and rebuild your users, IVR, queues and hours from your screenshots. Connect your CRM and shared calendar. Run live calls on a temporary number the new tool gives you.
Watch trial lengths: 3 days at Allo, 7 at Aircall, 14 at CloudTalk and Dialpad. Prepare everything before you start the clock.
- Time
- two to five days
- Prepare
- IVR screenshots
Request the port from your new provider
Weeks 1 to 4You request the port at the new provider, not at RingCentral. You'll need a recent bill, a signed letter of authorization (LOA), your account number, and a service address that matches RingCentral's records exactly. One character off and the request is rejected. The port-out PIN is disputed: some customers report 0000, others a PIN you generate. Ask RingCentral in writing.
You can port some numbers and keep others during the transition. Vendors often quote 15 to 20 business days: don't promise your team a date.
- Documents
- bill, LOA, account number, address
- Quoted time
- 15 to 20 business days
Check the cutover, call by call
Day oneThe day the port completes, call each of your numbers from a cell phone, during business hours and after. Check the IVR, transfers, voicemail and outbound caller ID. Ask two colleagues to call one customer each.
Don't cancel anything until everything checks out: a number released by an early cancellation can be gone for good.
- Time
- half a day
- Risk if rushed
- lost inbound calls
Cancel in writing, then check the next bill
After cutoverPorting closes neither your account nor your contract. Send cancellation in writing, listing the numbers already ported and the term end date. Ask for written confirmation.
Then watch the next two charges. Charges after a cancellation request are among the most common complaints about RingCentral: with your written proof, a dispute is simple.
- Keep
- proof of sending and confirmation
- Watch
- the next two invoices

What makes a RingCentral exit go wrong
The same mistakes show up in customer reports over and over. None of them is technical: they're about order and paperwork, and each one costs more than the time it would have taken to avoid it.
Canceling before the port completes
The most expensive mistake. The number gets released and can be lost. Port first, check, cancel last.
Assuming porting ends the contract
It doesn't. Without written cancellation, you keep paying for empty lines, sometimes for a whole new term.
Missing the 30-day window
Put two reminders in a shared calendar: 90 and 60 days before term end. A personal reminder leaves with the person who leaves the company.
Forgetting the recordings
After 90 days they're gone. If you need them for compliance or coaching, export them before you start anything else.
An address that doesn't match
Any difference between your RingCentral service address and the one on the port request gets it rejected. Copy it from your bill, character by character.
Signing the same trap somewhere else
Read your new provider's renewal clause before signing. If there is one, ask to remove it, or start month to month.
- Term end date and length noted from the order form
- Written non-renewal sent at least 30 days ahead
- Call log exported (12 months)
- Recordings downloaded (90 days max)
- Messages exported by a super admin
- IVR, hours and queues screenshotted
- New system built and live calls run
- Port requested with matching bill, LOA and address
- Every number checked after cutover
- Written cancellation sent and confirmed
- Next two invoices checked
RingCentral alternatives: frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to RingCentral?
It depends on why you're leaving. Dialpad if you want the same kind of business phone system for less, from $15 per user. Aircall if your team runs on a CRM and has at least three people. CloudTalk if you want to avoid another long commitment. Our ranking of VoIP business phone systems covers the whole market.
Is there a cheaper alternative to RingCentral?
Yes. KrispCall starts at $12 per user billed annually and Dialpad at $15, against $20 for RingEX Core billed annually and $30 monthly. CallHippo has a free Basic plan. Watch the extras, though: KrispCall bills calls from prepaid credit, and extra numbers cost $5 to $10 a month each.
How do I cancel my RingCentral contract?
In writing, at least 30 days before the end of your current term. Without notice, the contract renews for a period as long as the first one. If you leave before the end date, everything still owed for the rest of the term becomes due. Your end date is on your order form, not in the app.
Can I keep my phone numbers when I leave RingCentral?
Yes, by porting them, which you request at your new provider. Have a recent bill, a signed LOA, your account number and the exact service address ready. You can port only some numbers. Cancel RingCentral only once every number has arrived and been checked.
How long does it take to port a number out of RingCentral?
Plan for several weeks. Vendors often quote 15 to 20 business days, and every rejection restarts the clock. Customers describe port-outs rejected several times with no clear reason, and a service address that doesn't match is enough to get a request rejected. Submit the request as soon as your new system is ready.
Can I download my RingCentral call recordings?
Yes, but only from the last 90 days at most. You can download them one by one or in batches from the portal. For thousands of recordings, a script on RingCentral's API is faster. Do it before you cancel: the contract says your data is deleted when service ends.
Does RingCentral have a free trial?
Yes for new customers in the US, with limits: five users and two desk phones at most, and no texting during the trial. That's useful to know if you're comparing: CloudTalk and Dialpad offer 14-day trials, Aircall 7 days and Allo 3 days.
RingCentral or Aircall: which one costs less?
At list price, RingCentral: $20 per user billed annually for Core, against $30 for Aircall Essentials. But Aircall requires three licenses and sells AI and advanced analytics separately, while RingCentral adds taxes and fees like E911 to US invoices. Run the math for your headcount. Our Aircall pricing breakdown does it in full.
