Klaviyo alternatives: where to go and how to leave without breaking anything
Seven destinations, one for each reason to leave, and an eight-step exit plan.
The short answer: Omnisend if you want ecommerce flows that feel the same for less money, Shopify Messaging if your Shopify store sends little and wants to pay almost nothing, Drip if you mail a mid-size list several times a week, Seguno if you want a flat, predictable Shopify plan, ActiveCampaign if you also sell outside the store, Brevo if you run WooCommerce and your big list gets few emails, Mailchimp if simplicity matters more than ecommerce depth. Before you pick, know this: Klaviyo exports your profiles with their consent data and your templates as HTML, but not your flows or your event history. You rebuild those. We compared the seven destinations in this guide and checked their prices for 2026.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored placement is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a rating.
Why stores leave Klaviyo, and why it's tricky
Klaviyo is still the benchmark for ecommerce email, and users love segmenting on purchase data. Almost every exit starts in the same place: a bill that grows faster than revenue. Six reasons, all checked for 2026.
You pay for every active profile, even dormant ones
Klaviyo bills on active profiles, and a profile stays active until you suppress it, whether it opens your emails or not. A customer who bought once three years ago and never opens anything counts the same as your best customer. Only unsubscribed and suppressed profiles drop out. Stores that collect lots of emails through popups watch their tier rise while sales stay flat.
The tier goes up on its own, never down
If your active profiles exceed your plan, Klaviyo moves you up at the next billing cycle. The reverse doesn't happen: cleaning your list won't lower the bill until you change plans yourself, unless you've turned on auto-downgrade in billing settings. In Shopify App Store reviews, merchants also describe bot signups creating fake profiles that inflate the count.
Paid prices are no longer published
The official pricing page spells out the free plan (250 active profiles, 500 emails a month) but no paid grid: you build your plan in a calculator. The only stable public price sits on the Shopify App Store listing: $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts on email, and $15 a month for 1,250 SMS credits. Beyond that you have to model your own list size, which makes comparing painful.
International SMS burns credits
Klaviyo SMS runs on credits. A US text costs 1 credit, but international destinations cost several: France, for example, costs 7 credits per message. If you sell into Europe, the 1,250-credit pack goes a lot less far than it looks.
Support gets harder to reach
The free plan only gets email support for the first 60 days; after that you're left with the help center, the community and courses. On consumer review sites Klaviyo's score is very low, and the complaints repeat: surprise tier upgrades, slow answers, a chatbot. On the Shopify App Store, though, the app still holds 4.7 out of 5: people like the product far more than the billing.
Leaving takes real work
A list or segment export gives you profiles with timestamped email and SMS consent, but no event history (orders, viewed products), no list membership and no message history. Flows don't export at all: only their analytics and your templates (as HTML) come out. That's what keeps most stores stuck, and it's why this guide spends so long on the exit.
You're leaving because… go to…
The right Klaviyo alternative depends on what's pushing you out. Usually only one line applies. Each card jumps to the full write-up below.

Klaviyo alternatives, tool by tool
For each tool: why move there, who it's for, its limit, how to get there from Klaviyo, and what it costs. Prices are the ones listed in 2026, in US dollars, before tax.
The tools
Omnisend: the closest swap, for less
Closest matchWhy move to Omnisend. It's the tool that feels most like Klaviyo: email, SMS and web push in one builder, ready-made abandoned cart, welcome and post-purchase flows, segmentation on orders. Omnisend openly targets Klaviyo users with a free five-day migration: its team moves your contacts, your live workflows, your segments, up to five signup forms and one master email template. Above 250 contacts, its Kickstart service also rebuilds up to four workflows of your choice.
Who it's for. Shopify and WooCommerce stores that want to keep the same way of working for less, and anyone who wants support they can actually reach: live chat runs 24/7 on every plan, free included.
Who it's not for. Brands that lean hard on Klaviyo's predictive analytics (predicted lifetime value, expected next order date). Omnisend is simpler there.
Its limit. Free stops at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. Standard is $16 a month for 500 contacts and 6,000 emails ($11.20 if you prepay three months at 30% off), Pro is $59 for 2,500 contacts with unlimited email and SMS from $0.007 per US message. Watch out: non-subscribed contacts you import count toward billing. And several one-star reviews describe accounts suspended after a compliance check, often right after a big import.
How to migrate. Pick "migrating from Klaviyo" when you create the account and grant the access it asks for in the app. Clean your list first so you only bring subscribers, and export your Klaviyo reports, because past campaign and revenue data doesn't transfer. Keep Klaviyo running until you've seen each flow trigger in Omnisend.

Shopify Messaging: nearly free for a small Shopify store
Cheapest on ShopifyWhy move to Shopify Messaging. Shopify's own app (formerly Shopify Email) reads your customers, products and segments directly, with no sync to babysit. Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus include 10,000 emails a month, then you pay $1 per 1,000 emails on your Shopify bill. Abandoned checkout emails are free and don't even count toward the allowance.
Who it's for. Small Shopify stores that send one or two newsletters a month plus a cart reminder, and pay Klaviyo for features they never touch.
Who it's not for. A store that lives on branching flows, serious A/B testing or predictive segments. You'd lose precision.
Its limit. Every recipient counts: a newsletter to 8,000 subscribers uses 8,000 emails, so two sends a month already go past the allowance. One-star reviews mention basic analytics and support with no human to talk to. Templates are less flexible than Klaviyo's editor.
How to migrate. Your customers are already in Shopify with their marketing consent status. The work is on subscribers collected through Klaviyo forms who never bought: export them with their consent, then import them into Shopify as customers who accepted marketing. Replace Klaviyo popups with Shopify Forms, which is free.
- Free
- 10,000 emails/mo included
- Paid
- $1 per 1,000 emails
- Best for
- small Shopify store
- Limit

Drip: send as often as you like
Unlimited sendsWhy move to Drip. Drip was built for ecommerce from day one: a visual workflow builder, order-based segmentation, built-in popups. Pricing follows contacts and sends are unlimited on every plan, so a store that mails three or four campaigns a week stops worrying about quotas. Drip offers Klaviyo users a line-by-line cost comparison and a migration timeline.
Who it's for. Stores with 2,500 to 25,000 contacts that send a lot and want reviews and loyalty data (Judge.me, Stamped, LoyaltyLion) inside their flows.
Who it's not for. A small list just starting out: there's no free plan, only a 14-day trial.
Its limit. $39 a month for 2,500 contacts, $154 for 10,000, $409 for 25,000, and the curve gets steep beyond that. The Shopify app has few reviews (56). SMS is an add-on.
How to migrate. Connect the store first so order history flows in, then import subscribers with their status. Rebuild cart recovery and welcome first, the two that make money. Our Drip review and Drip pricing pages break down every tier.
- Free
- no, 14-day trial
- Paid
- $39/mo (2,500 contacts)
- Best for
- high send frequency
- Limit
- pricey past 25,000
Seguno: a flat plan without leaving Shopify
Flat Shopify planWhy move to Seguno. Seguno lives inside the Shopify admin and uses its customers and segments. Pricing follows subscribers with unlimited sending, and it covers what a store needs: welcome, abandoned cart, viewed product, back in stock, resend to non-openers, unique discount codes. You know exactly what next month costs.
Who it's for. Shopify stores with a few thousand subscribers who want a complete tool with no calculator and no credits.
Who it's not for. Anyone off Shopify, since Seguno only exists there. Nor stores that want native SMS: Seguno relies on a separate app, such as Postscript, for SMS.
Its limit. Free covers 250 subscribers. Standard is $35 a month for 2,500 subscribers, Pro $215 for 25,000, with a 10-day trial. Several reviews note that segments are only as good as what Shopify can do.
How to migrate. As with Shopify Messaging, your customers are already there: only import the Klaviyo subscribers who never bought, with their consent. The app holds 4.8 out of 5 from over 700 reviews, and several praise responsive support.

- 250 subscribers
- Paid
- $35/mo (2,500 subscribers)
- Best for
- fixed Shopify budget
- Limit

ActiveCampaign: when you don't only sell through a store
AutomationWhy move to ActiveCampaign. Klaviyo is built around the store. ActiveCampaign is built around the customer journey: if/else branches, lead scoring, an optional sales CRM. If you also sell services, subscriptions or B2B, everything sits in one place. ActiveCampaign has a deal for Klaviyo switchers: 10% off the first year of any annual Plus plan or above, plus free migration and onboarding.
Who it's for. Brands with a sales funnel next to the store, and teams whose flows mix email, forms and sales follow-up.
Who it's not for. A store that just wants ready-made ecommerce flows: ActiveCampaign's depth takes setup time.
Its limit. Starter is $15 a month billed yearly ($19 month to month) for 1,000 contacts, but the real ecommerce starting point is Plus at $49, where landing pages and the SMS add-on come in. Price climbs with every contact, and there's no free plan.
How to migrate. Ask for the free migration before rebuilding anything yourself. On Shopify, set how long before a cart counts as abandoned (one hour by default) in the integration settings. Our ActiveCampaign review covers the paid add-ons.
- Free
- no, 14-day trial
- Paid
- Starter $15/mo yearly
- Best for
- store plus services
- Limit
- paid add-ons
Brevo: a big list that you mail now and then
Pay per emailWhy move to Brevo. Klaviyo charges for every active profile. Brevo mostly charges for the emails you send: you pick a monthly volume, and a large list that gets one newsletter a month stays cheap. SMS and WhatsApp sit in the same account.
Who it's for. WooCommerce stores, which get an official Brevo plugin (contact and order sync, page-visit tracking), and brands that email a lot of people rarely.
Who it's not for. A Shopify store: the Brevo app is no longer available on the Shopify App Store, and an outside connector adds a fragile link between your store and your flows.
Its limit. Free sends 300 emails a day with Brevo branding. Starter begins at $9 a month but that first tier caps you at 500 contacts, Standard starts at $18 with unlimited automation, and removing the logo on Starter costs $12 a month more. Phone and WhatsApp support start at Pro, $499 a month.
How to migrate. Import one CSV per status: subscribers on one side, unsubscribed and suppressed profiles on the other, straight into the blocklist. Create your attributes (first name, last order date, total spent) before the import so every Klaviyo column has a home. Our Brevo review details the tiers.
- Free
- 300 emails a day
- Paid
- Starter from $9/mo
- Best for
- WooCommerce
- Limit
- no Shopify app
Mailchimp: when ecommerce isn't the core anymore
SimplicityWhy move to Mailchimp. If the online store is now only one part of the business (a brand that sells mostly in person, a content business, a nonprofit shop), Klaviyo is overkill. Mailchimp is simple, everyone knows it, and its Shopify integration syncs customers, orders and discount codes.
Who it's for. Small teams that send a newsletter and two or three simple automations.
Who it's not for. A store that lives on its flows: on Essentials, an automated journey stops at 4 steps.
Its limit. Free caps at 250 contacts and 500 sends a month. Essentials starts around $13 a month, Standard around $20 for 500 contacts. And Mailchimp counts unsubscribed contacts toward your limit, so you meet Klaviyo's problem in another shape. Another known trap: the Shopify integration can flip a contact back to "subscribed" in Shopify if they're subscribed in Mailchimp.
How to migrate. Import subscribers and unsubscribes separately, and archive the contacts you don't need right away so you don't pay for them. If you ever want out again, our guide switch from Mailchimp covers the way back.
- Free
- 250 contacts, 500 sends
- Paid
- Essentials ~$13/mo
- Best for
- simple newsletter
- Limit
- unsubscribes billed
The 7 alternatives side by side
Our default pick: Omnisend if you want to keep the same way of working, Shopify Messaging if your Shopify store sends little. The rest depends on your platform and how often you send. Before comparing, check your own numbers: how many active profiles Klaviyo bills you for, how many are actually engaged, and how many emails you send a month. One row per tool: free plan on the left, first paid price and the route from Klaviyo on the right.
| Free plan | First paid plan and migration | |
|---|---|---|
| KlaviyoStarting point | 250 active profiles, 500 emails a month, 60 days of support | Email $20 a month (251 to 500 contacts); SMS $15 for 1,250 credits |

Leave Klaviyo in eight steps
Order matters. Each step protects something: your subscribers, their consent, your flow revenue, your sender reputation.
The steps
List your flows and what they earn
Day 1Open Flows and write down, for each one: trigger, filters, delays, emails and texts, and the revenue it brought in. Export flow analytics to CSV from the same tab: it's the only hard data you'll keep.
Then rank them by revenue. Cart recovery, welcome and post-purchase usually do most of the work. Rebuild those three first; the rest can wait a week.
- Time
- half a day
- Export
- flow analytics
Clean the list before you leave
Saves moneyBuild a segment of profiles that haven't opened, clicked or bought in 12 months. Send them one last re-engagement campaign, then leave behind those who don't respond. You won't pay for them at your destination, which also bills by contact.
If your Klaviyo renewal lands mid-migration, suppress those profiles at least 24 hours before it and downgrade by hand: the bill won't drop by itself.
- Gain
- a lower tier on both sides
Export profiles with their consent
Day 1Create a segment that holds every profile, then Manage segment, Export to CSV. Tick the email and SMS consent columns with their timestamps: that's your proof. Export the suppression list separately (Profiles, View suppressed profiles, with reason filters cleared).
Three traps: the export has no order history, no list membership and no message history. It caps at 700 columns. And the file stays downloadable for only 30 days under Settings, Other, Downloads. Only Owner, Admin and Analyst roles can export.
- Limit
- 700 columns per export
- Kept for
- 30 days
Save templates and reports
In Content, Templates, open each template's menu and choose Export: Klaviyo gives you the HTML to copy. Screenshot your flow emails too, they're easier to rebuild than HTML to edit. Export your custom reports from Analytics.
To keep list membership, export each important list on its own and add a column with its name: it becomes a tag or group on import.
- Format
- HTML to copy
- Tip
- one export per list
Import suppressions first
At the destination, import the suppression list and unsubscribes first, as unsubscribed or blocklisted. Only then the subscribers. That way nobody who withdrew consent gets your first send by mistake.
Pause welcome flows during the import, or thousands of long-time customers get "Welcome!" on the same day.
- Order
- suppressions, then subscribers
Rebuild the three flows that pay
Week 1Rebuild cart recovery, welcome and post-purchase from your step 1 notes. Check every trigger with a real test order: add to cart, start checkout, abandon, wait for the delay. If you used Klaviyo unique discount codes, recreate them at the destination: they don't follow you.
For cart recovery settings that work, see our abandoned cart recovery page.
- Priority
- cart, welcome, post-purchase
Authenticate your domain and plan SMS
Add the destination's SPF, DKIM and DMARC records to your DNS, without removing Klaviyo's while you still send from it. For SMS, branded sender IDs can't be ported: you recreate them with the new provider. A regular number can be ported: start the request with the new provider before you remove it from Klaviyo.
- Don't
- remove a number you'll port
Cut over, then close Klaviyo cleanly
Week 2Start with profiles that opened or clicked in the last 90 days, then widen over one to two weeks. On cutover day, swap the site's forms and popups, then remove Klaviyo's tracking snippets (Active on Site, Viewed Product) and its integrations.
In Klaviyo, set flows to Draft instead of deleting them: a deleted flow can't be recovered. Keep the account on free while you confirm everything runs elsewhere.
- Time
- one to two weeks
- Keep
- flows in Draft

What makes a Klaviyo exit go wrong
The same mistakes show up in vendor migration guides and on forums. None is technical in the strict sense: they're oversights, and each costs more than the time it would have taken to avoid it.
Paying one month too many
Klaviyo bumps your tier at the next cycle if you go over, but never steps down by itself. Import your list at the destination while every profile stays active in Klaviyo and you pay twice. Suppress what you don't need and downgrade before the renewal.
Forgetting the suppression list
The worst mistake: it ignores consent people withdrew and damages deliverability from the first send. It happens when you export a subscriber segment and assume unsubscribes "don't exist anymore". Export them, import them first.
Deleting flows instead of drafting them
A deleted flow vanishes with its data. In Draft it stays readable while you rebuild. Also clear scheduled status changes, or a flow can switch itself back on.
Leaving Klaviyo scripts on the site
The Active on Site snippet keeps tracking visitors and creating profiles, which keeps raising your bill during the transition. Remove it, along with the store integration, the day you switch forms.
Comparing prices without comparing units
Klaviyo bills active profiles, Omnisend contacts, Brevo mostly emails sent, Shopify Messaging each recipient past the allowance. Compare on your real situation: cleaned list and monthly sends. Our best ecommerce email tools and Shopify email marketing pages give the orders of magnitude.
Underestimating SMS
SMS pricing swings with the destination country and the provider. Before you move your SMS flows, compare the real per-message price for your main countries, and see our SMS marketing platforms ranking if your volume is large. In the US, check that the destination handles quiet hours and TCPA consent the way Klaviyo did.
Klaviyo alternatives: frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to Klaviyo?
For most stores, Omnisend: the same core ecommerce flows, email and SMS in one place, free migration from Klaviyo, and Standard at $16 a month for 500 contacts. On Shopify with low volume, Shopify Messaging costs even less thanks to the 10,000 included emails.
Is Klaviyo free?
Yes, up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, with $5 of mobile messages and email support for the first 60 days only. From the 251st active profile you need a paid plan: $20 a month for email up to 500 contacts.
Why is Klaviyo so expensive?
Because it counts every non-suppressed profile, including people who never open, and moves you up a tier automatically. Suppress profiles inactive for a year, then downgrade by hand or turn on auto-downgrade in billing settings. Sometimes that alone fixes the bill.
Can you export Klaviyo flows?
No. You can export flow analytics and templates as HTML, not the flow logic. Omnisend moves live workflows as part of its free migration and ActiveCampaign offers assisted migration; anywhere else you rebuild from your notes.
Is Omnisend cheaper than Klaviyo?
At entry level, slightly: both are free up to 250 contacts, then Omnisend Standard is $16 for 500 contacts against $20 for Klaviyo email. Omnisend also includes 24/7 chat support on every plan. Compare on your own list size before deciding.
Does Klaviyo work with WooCommerce, and what's the alternative there?
Yes, Klaviyo integrates with WooCommerce. If you leave, Brevo suits a big list with spaced-out sends thanks to its official WooCommerce plugin; Omnisend and Drip also connect to WooCommerce for deeper ecommerce flows.
How long does it take to move off Klaviyo?
Export and import fit in a day. Rebuilding the three flows that make money takes a few days, then allow one to two weeks to ramp up sending. Omnisend quotes five days for its assisted migration.
Do I need to re-collect consent after switching?
No, if you only bring subscribers who opted in and keep the proof: the Klaviyo export includes consent status and its timestamp. Under CAN-SPAM, keep a valid postal address and an unsubscribe link in every commercial email at the new platform too.
