Why automate

What does the Reddit n8n integration actually cover?

The Reddit n8n integration links your workflows to the Reddit API through a single OAuth2 credential, which is an authorization you create once in n8n and reuse everywhere. The node searches and reads posts, submits new ones, writes comments and replies, removes what you published, and pulls background data about subreddits, users and your own profile. Nothing listens on its own: every Reddit workflow starts from another trigger.

Three shapes come back again and again. The first is a keyword watch. A Schedule Trigger runs post.search on the terms that matter to you, the results go into Google Sheets for scoring, and the shortlist leaves as a digest through Gmail. Nobody scrolls a feed for an hour looking for the same five threads.

The second is a community answer loop. post.getAll pulls the hot posts of a subreddit, a filter keeps the ones that mention your product category, and the thread lands in Slack where a human decides. If the answer is worth posting, postComment.reply sends it back under the right comment.

The third is publishing with a safety net. Before anything goes out, subreddit.get with Content set to rules fetches the rules of the target community, a condition checks them, and only then does post.create submit. Self-promotion rules differ wildly from one subreddit to the next, and a deleted post costs more than a check.

Prefer the HTTP Request node when what you need sits outside these 13 operations. It calls any Reddit endpoint while reusing the same credential through predefined authentication, so you stay on one connection instead of two.

Know the limits before you build. Post and comment IDs are not names: they come from the URL, in the form /r/[subreddit_name]/comments/[post_id]/[post_title]. On the listing operations, Return All walks through the API pages, while leaving it off caps the run at Limit. A post title stops at 300 characters. And since Reddit closed self-service API access in November 2025, a new app needs manual approval before a single workflow can run. Our n8n review covers the platform itself, and the n8n training goes through workflow building step by step.

Connect

How do you connect Reddit to n8n?

  1. 01

    Request API access first

Reddit closed self-service access to its public data API in November 2025, so app creation now goes through manual approval. Read the Responsible Builder Policy, then submit a request through Reddit's Developer Support form. This step gates everything else: without approval, the app you need for OAuth2 cannot be created, and the n8n credential has nothing to point at. Plan for it before you promise a delivery date.

  2. 02

    Create the third-party app

Once approved, go to reddit.com/prefs/apps, or through your profile, Settings, Privacy, Third-party app authorizations, then the developer link that creates an app. Open the Reddit credential in n8n, copy its OAuth Callback URL, and paste it as the app's redirect uri. That URL is how Reddit sends the authorization back to your n8n instance, so it has to match on both sides, character for character.

  3. 03

    Fill the credential in n8n

The app's client ID appears right underneath the app name in Reddit. Copy it into Client ID, copy the app's secret into Client Secret, then run the OAuth2 connection from n8n. OAuth2 is the only supported authentication method for this node. Save the credential once in the Credentials menu and every Reddit node in every workflow picks it from its dropdown.

Post

5 operations
01

Create a post

post.create

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Submits a post to a subreddit and returns the created post, so a later node can log its link.

Key parameters

  • Subreddit: the community the post goes to, written as its name, often {{ $json.subreddit }} when it comes from an earlier node.
  • Title: the post title, up to 300 characters.
  • Text: the body of the post, Markdown supported.
  • URL: the link carried by the post.
  • Kind: self for a text post, link for a link post, image for an image post.
  • Resubmit: on, the same URL can be posted again to a subreddit that already has it; off, a repost raises an error.
Use cases
publishing a release note in the community you run.
02

Delete a post

post.delete

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Removes a post you own from its subreddit. The workflow takes the post identifier and nothing else, which makes it a clean end-of-campaign step.

Key parameters

  • Post ID: the identifier of the post to delete, found in the post URL, /r/[subreddit_name]/comments/[post_id]/[post_title], for example gla7fmt. Chain it from a creation step with {{ $json.id }} rather than pasting it by hand.
Use cases
taking down a time-limited announcement once the offer closes, or cleaning up a thread a test workflow published by mistake.
03

Get a post

post.get

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Reads one specific post and returns its current state, which is how you refresh a thread you are already tracking instead of scraping the page.

Key parameters

  • Subreddit: the community where the post lives.
  • Post ID: the identifier of the post to retrieve, taken from the post URL between comments and the title slug, for example l0me7x.
Use cases
checking the state of a thread saved earlier in a sheet before deciding whether it still deserves an answer.
04

Get many posts

post.getAll

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Lists the posts of one subreddit, in the order that community sorting gives you. This is the reading operation behind most monitoring workflows.

Key parameters

  • Subreddit: the community to read from, one per execution.
  • Return All: on, n8n follows the API pages until the subreddit listing is exhausted; off, it stops at Limit.
  • Limit: the maximum number of posts returned when Return All is off.
  • Category: top, hot, new or rising, inside Filters.
Use cases
a morning pull of rising threads in the two subreddits your buyers live in.
05

Search for a post

post.search

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Runs a keyword search and returns the matching posts, either inside one community or across the whole site.

Key parameters

  • Keyword: the search terms, typically read from a list of brand and competitor names.
  • Subreddit: the community to search in.
  • Location: subreddit to stay in that community, allReddit to search everywhere.
  • Sort: relevance, top, hot, new or comments, inside Additional Fields.
  • Return All and Limit: full result set, or a capped batch per run.
Use cases
brand monitoring, or spotting the recurring complaint your next article should answer.

Post Comment

4 operations
06

Create a comment in a post

postComment.create

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Writes a top-level comment under a post, the kind that appears directly in the thread rather than under someone else's message.

Key parameters

  • Post ID: the identifier of the post receiving the comment, found in the post URL, for example l0me7x.
  • Comment Text: the body of the comment, Markdown supported, which lets a generated answer keep its lists and links.
Use cases
adding the summary and the documentation link under a thread you published, once the discussion has settled.
07

Get many comments in a post

postComment.getAll

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Pulls the comments of one post and hands them to the rest of the workflow as items, ready for scoring, translation or archiving.

Key parameters

  • Subreddit: the community where the post is.
  • Post ID: the post whose comments you want, identifier taken from its URL.
  • Return All: on, every comment page is fetched; off, the run stops at Limit.
  • Limit: the ceiling applied when Return All stays off, handy while you test.
Use cases
feeding a busy thread into a sentiment step to see what users actually reject.
08

Delete a comment from a post

postComment.delete

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Removes one of your comments from a thread. Only the comment identifier is needed, so the operation fits at the end of a review branch.

Key parameters

  • Comment ID: the identifier of the comment to remove, found in the comment URL, /r/[subreddit_name]/comments/[post_id]/[post_title]/[comment_id], for example gla7fmt.
Use cases
pulling back an automated reply that a moderator flagged, without opening the thread by hand.
09

Reply to a comment in a post

postComment.reply

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Answers a specific comment instead of the post, so the message appears nested under the person who wrote it.

Key parameters

  • Comment ID: the identifier of the comment being answered, found at the end of the comment URL, for example gl9iroa, usually passed as {{ $json.id }} from a listing step.
  • Reply Text: the answer itself, Markdown supported.
Use cases
closing the loop on a support question a human validated in Slack earlier in the workflow.

Profile

1 operation
10

Get a profile

profile.get

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Returns data about the account the credential belongs to, one category per execution.

Key parameters

  • Details: what to read back, identity, karma, friends, blockedUsers, prefs, saved or trophies.
  • Return All: on for the whole list when the chosen detail returns many items.
  • Limit: the cap applied when Return All is off.
Use cases
reading karma before letting a posting workflow run, since young accounts get filtered in many communities.

Subreddit

2 operations
11

Get a subreddit

subreddit.get

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Fetches background information about one community, either its description or the rules it enforces.

Key parameters

  • Content: about for the community description, rules for the list of rules.
  • Subreddit: the community name to read.
Use cases
running a rules check right before a publishing step, so a workflow never submits into a community that bans links. Store the result in Google Sheets and you get a reusable map of where you may post.
12

Get many subreddits

subreddit.getAll

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Looks across Reddit for communities rather than posts, and returns them as items. It runs without any required field, which makes it the easiest operation to test a fresh credential with.

Key parameters

  • Keyword: the term the community search runs on, inside Filters.
  • Trending: on, the operation returns the communities trending across Reddit instead.
  • Return All and Limit: the whole list, or a capped batch.
Use cases
building the shortlist of communities worth watching before any monitoring workflow exists.

User

1 operation
13

Get a user

user.get

What you see in n8n

Notes & use cases

Reads public data about somebody else's account, with the category chosen at configuration time.

Key parameters

  • Username: the Reddit identifier of the account to retrieve.
  • Details: about, overview, comments, submitted or gilded.
  • Return All and Limit: every item of the chosen category, or a capped batch.
Use cases
qualifying the author of a thread before outreach, by checking what they usually post about.

FAQ

Reddit and n8n, the questions that come next

01Is the Reddit integration free in n8n?
Yes. The Reddit node ships with n8n, so there is nothing to install and no extra cost on the n8n side, whether you run n8n Cloud or a self-hosted instance under the Community Edition and its Sustainable Use licence. A workflow behaves the same in both places, which means you can build on Cloud and move it later. What sits outside that answer is Reddit itself: access to its public data API now goes through an approval process, and whatever terms come with your approved app apply to every one of the 13 operations the node offers.
02What credentials do you need to connect Reddit to n8n?
OAuth2, and only OAuth2. You need a Reddit account, an approved third-party app, and from that app two values: a Client ID, displayed underneath the app name, and a Client Secret. In n8n, the Reddit credential also gives you an OAuth Callback URL that you paste into the app as its redirect uri before authorizing. Create that credential once in the Credentials menu and every Reddit node in every workflow picks it from a dropdown, so rotating the secret later is a single edit rather than a hunt through your workflows.
03What are the limits of the Reddit n8n integration?
Three worth knowing. First, listing operations paginate: with Return All on, n8n follows the API pages to the end, and with it off the run stops at Limit, which is what you want while testing. Second, posts and comments are addressed by identifier, not by title, and those identifiers come from the URL, so a lookup step usually feeds the write step. Third, the node covers 13 operations across 5 resources. Anything Reddit's API exposes beyond that list goes through the HTTP Request node, which reuses the same credential through predefined authentication.
04Does the Reddit node react in real time?
No, and that is a structural point rather than a setting: Reddit has no trigger node in n8n, so nothing pushes events into your workflow. You choose the cadence instead. A Schedule Trigger running post.getAll or post.search at a fixed interval covers monitoring, and the gap between two runs is your real latency. If another system already knows when to act, an n8n Webhook, meaning a URL that service calls, starts the workflow and the Reddit node runs as an action inside it.
05n8n or Make for Reddit?
It depends on where your data has to live and how you want to pay. Make is hosted by Make, with no self-hosting option, and bills per operation, so a monitoring workflow that reads many posts every hour has a cost that follows volume. n8n runs on n8n Cloud or on your own server, which matters when Reddit content feeds an internal analysis you would rather keep in house, and pricing does not follow the number of items you process. Both give you a visual canvas. The honest split is hosting, data control and cost model, not features.
