What is the best dedicated server hosting in 2026?
A real physical server, not a VPS with a new label. And the price of month one, not just the monthly rent.
You want a dedicated server because your app, database or virtual machines need a whole machine to themselves. The trouble is that most "best dedicated hosting" lists are written by hosts ranking themselves, and almost none mention the setup fee that can double your first bill.
Short answer. OVHcloud is the best overall if you need US data centers: Advance-1 from $147 a month, plus a $147 setup fee. Hetzner gives the most hardware for the money (€59 before VAT for 64 GB of RAM and NVMe, no setup fee), but only from Germany and Finland. IONOS rents a US-priced box at $47 a month with no setup fee. Hivelocity brings US data centers at $97 a month with no setup fee. Kimsufi is the cheapest real box at $11.10, when you can find stock.

How we compared and ranked
This page is for whoever has to rent a whole server: a developer, an agency, the tech lead of a small business. You know what a Linux box is. What you want to know is what you will actually pay, and whether the machine will be there tomorrow.
We read each host's official pricing page: monthly rent, setup fee, contract, CPU, RAM, drives, bandwidth. Then we went through user reports on hosting forums, starting with the bad ones: dead drives, unanswered tickets, stock that never appears. Real first-month cost carries the most weight, because that is where the surprises hide.
Liquid Web, InMotion Hosting, Bluehost, Scaleway and Contabo are covered below, outside the ranking: we could not read a plain monthly price for their dedicated servers on their official site when we compared (Liquid Web only shows discounted prices without the regular rate). Hostinger is left out entirely: it sells VPS plans, not physical servers.
- Real first-month costRent plus setup fee, and the contract needed to waive it.30%
- Hardware and bandwidthCPU generation, RAM, NVMe or spinning disks, guaranteed port speed.25%
- Real availabilityStock shown, "coming soon" listings, delivery delays.15%
- Support and managementPhone, ticket or forum, and who runs the server.15%
- Network and data centersData center locations, DDoS protection, private network.15%
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
OVHcloud
OVHcloud is the dedicated server provider most US roundups skip, and it is the one that covers both sides of the Atlantic. On its US site, the Advance range starts at $147 a month with an AMD EPYC 4244P (6 cores, 12 threads). You pick a data center in Vint Hill (Virginia), Hillsboro (Oregon), Beauharnois or Toronto, and DDoS protection is included on every server. Both Advance-1 versions were marked "coming soon" on the US price page when we compared: check stock before you plan around it.
The catch is the setup fee. It equals one month of rent: $147. So your first month costs $294, double the sticker price. On the European side, OVHcloud waives the setup fee when you commit for 12 months; check the same option at checkout on the US site before you pay it.
- DDoS protection included on every dedicated server, no add-on to buy
- Data centers in Virginia, Oregon, Quebec and Ontario, plus France and Germany
- A private network between your servers, handy for splitting web and database
- ✓Real hardware with a current AMD EPYC chip at the entry of the business range
- ✓Data centers on both sides of the Atlantic, in the US, Canada and Europe
- ✓Rise and Kimsufi ranges announced as spared by the 2026 price increases
- ✗The setup fee doubles your first month
- ✗Unmanaged: OS updates, firewall and backups are on you
- ✗Entry-level support mostly runs through tickets
The best pick if your users are in North America and you want room to grow into Europe. Budget the setup fee into month one, and stay at least a year so it pays off.
Hetzner
Hetzner gives you the most hardware per dollar on this page, priced in euros. The AX41 costs €59 a month before VAT: an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (6 cores), 64 GB of RAM, two 512 GB NVMe drives in RAID 1 (every write lands on both drives) and a guaranteed 1 Gbit/s port with unlimited traffic. No setup fee, no contract, and billing is hourly (€0.0945 an hour), capped at the monthly price.
Two limits matter for a US reader. Hetzner's dedicated servers live only in Germany (Falkenstein, Nuremberg) and Finland (Helsinki), so latency to US visitors is real. And the AX41 runs a Zen 2 chip; the AX42 (Ryzen 7 PRO 8700GE, Zen 4, DDR5 ECC) costs €79 to €99 plus a €49 setup fee.
- Unlimited traffic on the 1 Gbit/s port
- Hourly billing capped at the month: return the box without losing a full month
- Server Auction: refurbished machines with no setup fee, worth a look for side projects
- ✓Lowest first-month cost for 64 GB of RAM and NVMe
- ✓No contract and no setup fee on the AX41
- ✓DDoS protection included
- ✗Email support only; some users report tickets left unanswered for a long time
- ✗No dedicated servers in the US
- ✗Prices and setup fees on dedicated servers went up in 2026
Unbeatable on price if your audience is in Europe or latency does not matter (backups, CI runners, batch jobs). For a US storefront, OVHcloud's American data centers make more sense.
Kimsufi (OVHcloud)
Kimsufi is OVHcloud's budget line, and the cheapest physical server we found. The KS-B costs $11.10 a month for an Intel Xeon E5-1620v2 (4 cores, 8 threads), 32 GB of RAM and one 120 GB drive. The KS-1 moves to $18.80 with a Xeon-D 1520 and two drives, from 2 x 480 GB to 2 x 2 TB. Setup equals one month, waived on a 12-month contract.
Read the fine print. Most models show "coming soon" on the order page; LowEndTalk regulars say KS-1 stock pops up several times a day and sells out in minutes. The hardware is old (the E5 v2 is over ten years old), public bandwidth caps at 500 Mbit/s, and support works by email during business hours.
- 32 GB of RAM on a machine that is yours alone, for about $11
- 99.90% SLA on the range, on OVHcloud's network
- Setup waived with a 12-month contract
- ✓The lowest entry price for a real dedicated server
- ✓Enough RAM for a Proxmox hypervisor or a backup target
- ✓OVHcloud network and DDoS protection
- ✗Stock is erratic: KS-B, KS-C and KS-1 often show "coming soon"
- ✗One drive on the KS-B: no redundancy at all
- ✗500 Mbit/s bandwidth and decade-old CPUs
Great for learning, backups and personal projects. Never for a site that pays your bills: one drive and business-hours support is too thin.

IONOS
IONOS is the only host on this page with a flat dollar price and no setup fee at the entry level. Its value dedicated server costs $47 a month: an Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 (4 cores, Kaby Lake), 16 GB of DDR4 ECC RAM and two 1 TB SATA hard drives in software RAID 1. Traffic is unlimited and one IPv4 address is included.
Read the spec sheet before you pay. This is a budget line on older hardware: spinning disks, not NVMe, and a CPU generation from 2017. Each extra IPv4 costs $5 a month, and Windows Server starts at $38 a month on top. User reviews also complain about cancellation being harder than signing up.
- $47 a month with no setup fee, so month one costs $47
- RAID 1 on two drives from the entry model
- Unlimited traffic included
- ✓The simplest first bill on this page
- ✓Two drives in RAID 1, unlike Kimsufi's single drive
- ✓No contract required on the monthly plan
- ✗Old CPU and spinning hard drives on the entry model
- ✗Windows Server and extra IPv4 addresses cost extra
- ✗Cancellation criticized in user reviews
A sensible pick for a small business site or a file server that needs a real box with redundancy and a predictable bill. For heavy workloads, the old CPU and hard drives will hold you back: look at OVHcloud's Advance range instead.
Hivelocity
Hivelocity is a US host that rents dedicated servers in more than 40 data centers across six continents. Its entry server costs $97 a month: an Intel Xeon E-2236 at 3.4 GHz (6 cores, 12 threads), 16 GB of RAM, a 480 GB SSD and 20 TB of traffic on a 1 Gbit/s port. Hivelocity states that it charges no setup fee on dedicated servers, so month one costs $97.
The catch is the hardware for the money. At twice the price of IONOS you get an SSD instead of hard drives, but a single drive and 16 GB of RAM, where Hetzner's AX41 offers 64 GB for €59. Without a managed plan, getting the team to install third-party software costs a flat $100, on a best-effort basis.
- $97 a month with no setup fee
- More than 40 data centers on six continents
- 20 TB of traffic at 1 Gbit/s on the entry server
- ✓Pick a data center close to your users, in the US or abroad
- ✓Clear first bill: rent only
- ✓Extra IPv4 addresses at $2.50 a month on custom builds
- ✗16 GB of RAM and one SSD on the entry server
- ✗Twice the price of IONOS for the cheapest model
- ✗Software installs cost $100 each without a managed plan
Pick Hivelocity when location matters more than raw hardware: a server in Asia, South America or a specific US city, billed at a flat price. If your users are in Europe, Hetzner gives you far more machine for less.
What your first month really costs
The advertised price is not what you pay in month one. At OVHcloud and Kimsufi, the setup fee equals a month of rent. Here is the first month and the first year, from official pricing, with no contract.
Under $25 a month
Kimsufi KS-B: $11.10 rent plus $11.10 setup, so $22.20 in month one and $144.30 for the year. Sign for 12 months and setup is waived: $133.20. If you can find stock.
Between $47 and €60 a month
IONOS value server: $47 in month one and $564 for the year, no setup fee. Hetzner AX41: €59 before VAT in month one, €708 for the year, no setup fee. Hourly billing at Hetzner means a two-week test costs about half a month.
From $97 to $150 a month
Hivelocity entry server: $97 in month one and $1,164 for the year, no setup fee. OVHcloud Advance-1 (US): $147 rent plus $147 setup, so $294 in month one and $1,911 for the year. Hetzner AX102 sits close in Europe: €159 plus €129 setup.
- Add rent and setup fee: that is the real price of month one
- Check the CPU generation, not just the core count: an E5 v2 is over ten years old
- Check guaranteed bandwidth: 500 Mbit/s at Kimsufi, 1 Gbit/s at Hetzner and IONOS
- Insist on two drives in RAID 1 as soon as the server holds data that matters
- Decide who patches and backs up the box: on an unmanaged server, it is you
Rent a dedicated server without nasty surprises
These tips come from hosting forums and user reports. You will not find them in the vendor-written lists at the top of Google.
The tips
Check the drives on day one
Day 1On refurbished boxes (Kimsufi, Hetzner Server Auction) the drives have already spun for years. Boot into rescue mode and run smartctl -a on each drive before you install anything. Reallocated sectors? Open a ticket right away and paste the output: it is the first thing support asks for.
- Command
- smartctl -a /dev/sdX
- When
- Before installing anything
Catch Kimsufi stock
Budget"Coming soon" does not mean never. LowEndTalk users see KS-1 stock return several times a day and vanish within minutes. Keep the page open, set up your account and payment method in advance, and order the moment the button changes.
- Saving
- Setup waived on 12 months
Pick the data center your users can reach
NetworkHetzner's dedicated servers are in Germany and Finland only. For a US audience, every page load crosses the Atlantic. OVHcloud's Vint Hill and Hillsboro sites cover the East and West Coasts; Beauharnois and Toronto cover Canada.
- OVHcloud US
- Virginia, Oregon
- Hetzner
- Germany, Finland
Never treat RAID as a backup
SafetyRAID 1 saves you from a dead drive, not from a bad command, a hack or a deleted folder. Keep a copy off the server: object storage, another data center, or a second cheap box. A single-drive Kimsufi has no RAID at all.
- Rule
- One copy off the server
Plan IPv6 before running Proxmox on Kimsufi
HomelabKimsufi is a homelab favorite for Proxmox. Forum users warn that handing several IPv6 addresses to your VMs is often painful there. Route through the host, or use one IPv4 with a reverse proxy.
- Use
- Hypervisor, lab, backups
Use Hetzner's hourly billing for short jobs
HetznerHetzner bills the AX41 at €0.0945 an hour, capped at the monthly price, with no setup fee. A load test, a data migration or a one-off render can run on real hardware for a few days, then you hand the box back.
- Rate
- €0.0945/hour, capped
Other hosts worth knowing
These hosts also sell dedicated servers. We do not rank them because their prices could not be read on their official site when we compared, or because they do not sell physical servers.
The others
Liquid Web: fully managed, US-style
ManagedLiquid Web sells fully managed dedicated servers with cPanel, 500 GB of Acronis backups, 24/7 support and a 99.99% uptime commitment. If nobody on your team wants to run Linux, it is the kind of host to look at. Check the monthly price against the two-year discount in the cart before you commit.
- Support
- 24/7
- Uptime
- 99.99%
InMotion Hosting: a common pick in US lists
USInMotion shows up in most US roundups. Its official dedicated server page could not be opened when we compared, so we do not quote a price. If you consider it, compare the intro price with the renewal price on a 12-month term.
- Watch
- Intro vs renewal price
Bluehost: a big name, no price we could read
USBluehost ranks in most US lists for dedicated hosting, mostly on the strength of its shared hosting brand. Its official dedicated hosting page refused our reader when we compared, so we quote no price and do not rank it. If you consider it, compare the intro price with the renewal price and check the CPU generation before you pay.

- Intro vs renewal price
Contabo: lots of hardware, slow support
BudgetForum users praise Contabo's hardware for the money. The same threads describe repeated failures and tickets that take two to five days, sometimes longer on dedicated servers. Fine for workloads that can survive days of downtime.
- Strength
- Hardware for the price
- Limit
- Support delays
Scaleway Dedibox: Paris and Amsterdam
EuropeScaleway rents Dedibox servers in Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw with 24/7 live chat. Setup equals one month of rent, and 12 to 36-month terms bring up to 15% off. Small models can be slow: 200 Mbit/s on the Start-1-L.
- Data centers

Hostinger: no physical servers
VPS onlySeveral lists rank Hostinger first for dedicated hosting. Hostinger only sells VPS plans: a slice of a machine, not the whole machine. That is often enough, and cheaper. If so, read our best VPS hosting ranking.

What people ask before renting
How much does a dedicated server cost per month?
From about $11 to $150 or more for most needs. Kimsufi starts at $11.10, IONOS at $47, Hetzner's AX41 costs €59, Hivelocity starts at $97 and OVHcloud's US Advance-1 at $147. Add the setup fee: at OVHcloud it equals a month of rent, so your first bill is $294.
Is a dedicated server better than a VPS?
Only if you need the whole machine. A dedicated server gives you all the CPU, RAM and disks with no noisy neighbors. A VPS is cheaper and resizes in minutes. For a typical business site or a single WordPress install, a VPS is almost always enough.
What is the cheapest dedicated server?
Kimsufi, OVHcloud's budget line, with the KS-B at $11.10 a month. Add $11.10 for setup without a contract, and be ready to wait for stock. With a single drive, keep backups elsewhere.
Managed or unmanaged dedicated server: which should you pick?
Unmanaged if someone on your team can run Linux; managed otherwise. On Hetzner, OVHcloud or Kimsufi, updates, firewall and backups are your job. Managed hosts like Liquid Web handle the OS and backups for you, at a much higher monthly price.
Do dedicated servers include DDoS protection?
At OVHcloud and Hetzner, yes, at no extra cost. It filters flooding attacks, not attacks on your application. One user even had a server suspended over suspected outgoing attack traffic: keep an eye on what runs on your box.
Do I need a dedicated server for WordPress?
Rarely. A business WordPress site runs fine on good managed hosting or a VPS. A dedicated server makes sense for dozens of sites, a busy store, or heavy memory needs. For a single site, see our best WordPress hosting comparison.
Where can I rent a dedicated server with a GPU?
The servers on this page have no dedicated GPU. For AI, 3D rendering or video encoding you need a GPU offer, with very different prices and limits. We compare them on our dedicated GPU server page.
